Master developer
A family's long history on this shore
Matalay is wholly owned by the Boonsoong family, whose roots in Phang Nga go back to tin mining in Takua Pa, the district Khao Lak belongs to.
Over the decades the family's interests widened across Thailand, but this stretch of coast stayed with them, and Matalay is what they have decided to make of it: a resort town built from what is already here rather than in place of it.
As master developer, Matalay Company Limited builds the shared things first. The roads and power, the surf village, the elephant home, the entrance with Goya Tower and the Archaeology Park, and the beach end of the Green Spine come before any hotel or home. Sites are then offered to developers and operators who share the idea, with the setting already in place.
The people around the family are listed below: a development partner, advisers on hospitality, land and construction, and the designers and engineers who drew the plan.
